Here are some of the frequently asked questions we get at ABC. If you still have more questions or need more information, please e-mail me or drop your questions in my drop box at the studio. Your questions are important to us and we will answer them as soon as possible.

When will I be able to watch my child in class? |
In order for the dancers to get the most out of class and for the teacher to maintain a students' focus, we ask that viewing of the classes be done ONLY through the viewing windows. We will have 1 week for parents to observe the classroom experience. This week will be the first week in May. Visiting days are for BEGINNER STUDENTS ONLY!

How will I be kept informed? |

When should I drop my child off for class? How do I know if the studio is closed for holidays or inclement weather? |
Please drop your child off 5 minutes before class-time. DO NOT drop them off by the curb. For safety reasons, please bring your child upstairs to make sure the studio is open. In an emergency, we may have to close. We cannot be held responsible for students until they are in the dance studio for their class. We also ask that you come into the waiting area to pick up your child from class. If you choose to have them meet you outside, please understand that we will no longer be responsible for their whereabouts once they leave the waiting area. Studio closings due to weather will be announed on WCDO (100.9). If school closes early due to weather, we will be closed. If school is closed in the AM, we may still have class as weather may improve by then. If the weather is questionable before your childs class, you may call ahead to see if we are still holding class. Obviously we don't want anyone to put their safety at risk trying to get to dance class on unsafe roads. Please use your best judgement. If we must close in case of an emergency, we will do our best to contact the class moms to get ahold of everyone in the class. We will also try to put a sign on the door. Please make sure we have your correct contact information, otherwise we won't be able to notify you in these instances.
We do not follow the school holiday calendar. We are open for many of the school holidays and closings. Please see the important dates page on this web-site for that information.

How come my child is in this class, instead of another one? |
Placement is based on ability, not age. If a student shows a great amount of talent, and works hard, they may get moved up. During the month of September, students may get moved around, at the teacher's suggestion. Please do not ask to have your child move up - we know where they best belong. Students should remember that hard work and a positive attitude will help them to become the best dancers they can be. Wasting classtime by talking, goofing around, or just not listening or putting forth the effort to do what is required, is not fair to your teachers, classmates or yourself. We take these things into consideration when placing our students. A student must display the proper attitude, behavior and effort to be moved into the advanced level classes.

When can I go on pointe?/Why can't I go on pointe? |
There are many factors that we take into consideration when deciding whether or not a student is ready for pointe. Some main ones are listed below.
*strength (practicing at home really helps)
*Technique (Keep up the ballet classes! Only intermdiate and advanced students are allowed on pointe)
*Age (atleast 12 years of age, the bones need to be fully developed)
*Dedication (You can't fool around in pointe shoes-you'll get hurt!)
We will not put any student on pointe until we are 100% sure they are ready. DO NOT buy your child pointe shoes unless Miss Amy has said to do so. Trying to dance on pointe without proper training is just asking for an injury. If you think your child has been overlooked for a pointe class, ask the teacher. Just consider the above requirements, before you ask.

What should my child wear to dance class and where can I get it? |
Proper dance attire is mandatory for dance class. Please see the following list of acceptable class attire.
All hair MUST be pulled back away from face and off neck. Buns, ponytails and braids are proper hairstyles for class. Students should carry hair bands and clips in their dance bags and come into class with hair DONE.
Ballet: students ages 9 and up must wear pink tights, solid color leotards, alignment belt and split sole ballet shoes. (tight fitting warm ups are okay for beginning of class)
Ballet: 8 and under (no belt needed)
Modern & Lyrical: wear same as ballet but with footless or convertible tights. Dance shorts and tight leggings also allowed.
Jazz, Tap, Acro, Production: any solid color bodysuit with footless or convertible tights, dance shorts and jazz pants okay.
Hip Hop: You can wear jazz pants or sweats, but wear a bodysuit underneath. You may be asked to remove bulky clothes when working on proper alignment.
Bottom Line: ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR A LEOTARD AND TIGHTS TO CLASS!!!
(During warmer months, students can go without tights if they would like.)
If you need these items, they can be purchased right at Dancer's Paradise, the dance store located off the ABC waiting room. She is very reasonable and carries a large variety of items. (All are acceptable dance attire.)

What is the Performance Team? |
ABC's Performance Team is an elite, select group of dancers that not only perform in our annual recital, but at competitions, workshops, parades and various other community events. This is a very dedicated group of students that give 100% to dance. Performance Team dancers are required to participate in one Ballet class a week. Being on the Performance Team also gives dancers the opportunity to perform solos, duets and trios.
